PRESS RELEASE

“Hooks ISD Recipient of 21st Century Learning Grant from TEA”

Recently, Hooks ISD was awarded the 21st Century CCLC grant from the  Texas Education Agency (TEA). The grant provides $594,593 for afterschool programs to economically disadvantaged and at-risk students at all three Hooks ISD campuses. Campuses included in the program are Hooks Elementary School, Hooks Junior High School and Hooks High School. The Hooks “ACE” Afterschool Centers on Education Program will be held Monday through Thursday, beginning after school and ending at 6:30 p.m. Participating students will be provided a meal or snack each day, homework will be completed and transportation home is provided.

The four components included in the program will be academic support; enrichment opportunities; family engagement and education; as well as college/career preparation. This exciting, new program will provide students opportunities to participate in academic and enrichment activities such as art, music, theatre, cooking, homework support, and tutoring. In addition, parents will have opportunities to improve their own knowledge and skills through classes such as helping students with homework, learning English, and parenting.

Students and families who qualify for the program can enroll in September. The first day of the program will be September 15, 2014.The program will be offered at no charge to families. For more information please contact program director Tracy Cook at (903) 547-6077 x 1037 or cookt@hooksisd.net.
