Hooks Independent School District

The Hooks Independent School District (HISD) is located in the quiet East Texas town of Hooks, located in the Northeast corner of Bowie County, just a few miles west of the city of Texarkana. Hooks, although slowly growing, is still small enough to give the pleasure of wholesome country living in the education of its children. The townspeople have great pride and esteem in the three campuses of their public schools. Each Campus offers a challenging curriculum that meets or exceeds the requirements of the Texas Education Agency. Our elementary school, pre-kindergarten through grade 4, has an active Gifted/Talented (G/T) program. Our junior high, grades 5 through 8, also has an active G/T program along with boys and girls athletic programs, UIL academic competitions, and a band program. Our high school offers students the opportunity to earn either a Distinguished, Recommended, or Minimum diploma. Also offered are vocational studies, G/T programs, athletics, band, and UIL academic opportunities. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn college credits through concurrent enrollment. The adequate, well-kept facilities and classrooms are fully sufficient for educational excellence. Public Support for education in HISD is evident both in finances and in volunteer efforts. This can be seen in the quality of facilities (which have recently undergone additions and renovations, ranking them among the most modern in North East Texas) and in assistance by the community in fund-raising efforts. The administrative and instructional staff is eager to help students. A high quality of life is maintained for students, therefore providing educationally qualified citizens of the future.
